Belleville Assisted Living: Algiers, LA

Summary: The Belleville Assisted Living Center, located in New Orleans’ Algiers Point National Register Historic District, used to be the former Belleville Elementary School that served as a focal point of the surrounding neighborhood and a key element of the community. The 56,000 square foot campus, encompassing several buildings, underwent a $13 million dollar renovation, repurposing the old school building, and developing a senior living community alternative. The assisted living center opened in the spring of 2012.

Services:

  • Worked with architects to develop the overall site layout on an existing site with proposed buildings and expanded parking
  • Incorporated stormwater best management practices that include utilizing bioswales and native plant species
  • Designed and implemented plazas, courtyards, driveways, parking areas, pathways, walks, site furnishings, bicycle circulation and parking, seat walls, terraces, retaining walls, railings, planters, bioswales, fencing, shade structures, signage, site drainage, rainwater harvesting, stormwater BMPs, irrigation, landscaping, and tree protection and preservation
