Lawrence D. Crocker School: New Orleans, LA

Client: Chenevert Architects and New Orleans Recovery School District

Summary: The school, constrained to one city block in New Orleans, was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina is being redesigned and rebuilt as a state-of-the-art school. Using LEED certifiable methods, Dana Brown & Associates, Inc.* was responsible for designing all exterior areas including play areas (totaling one third of an acre) for three age groups, planting, streetscape, fencing, rainwater harvesting systems, irrigation systems, and drainage.

  • Participated in early design charrettes to develop a site plan that satisfies programmatic needs and site constraints of the small space
  • Designed a site plan that maximizes green space and permeability using sustainable techniques that will serve as a teaching opportunity for the attending students and local community residents
  • The colorful and engaging courtyard play area is designed to separate the various grade levels, combining sustainability and various play activities as learning opportunities
