Riverfront District Master Plan: Baton Rouge, LA

Client: Baton Rouge Downtown Development District and a consortium of private land owners

Summary: Developed a Master Plan and conceptual design for renovating River Road, parallel Lafayette Street, and adjacent private development to create a new River District in downtown Baton Rouge. This project served as the first design project in over 30 years focusing on the City’s relationship to the Mississippi River.

  • Site analysis of the downtown river district and surrounding areas
  • Development of design concept along River Road and important, existing urban nodes that could be used to connect to the rest of the city
  • Established a plant matrix of native Louisiana species able to survive specified conditions
  • Site sections were taken along River Road to illustrate how the new development interacted with existing levees
