BOGUE FALAYA PARK

BOGUE FALAYA PARK

The Bogue Falaya Park was in need of a master plan to update the currently underutilized nature park and to transform it into a major community amenity. Dana Brown & Associates was brought on board to work with the project engineers, City of Covington, and citizens to design a plan that addresses connections, stormwater management, riverbank and ecological restoration, peak park use during events, and introduces a more diverse program to the park. Because so many of Covington’s residents have formed a personal connection to the park, the overall strategy throughout the master plan process was to build upon its existing amenities while preserving its current character.

DBA presented the City of Covington with a framework to help them in securing funding and laying out phases for implementation. With this framework, the City can implement various components of the proposed master plan in a logical progression as funding is acquired. Phase I includes stabilization and protection of the Bogue Falaya riverbank and is already underway. The long-term result of the master plan, upon full implementation, will be a nature park that serves as a public space for both the residents of Covington and those of the larger Southeast Louisiana region.
